SLATEX ABOVE GRADE SYSTEM
FIRE RETARDANT AND WATERPROOFING COATING
for
ABOVE GRADE PLYWOOD WALKING DECKS

I. DESCRIPTION and SCOPE

The MULTICOAT SLATEX ABOVE GRADE SYSTEM is a multi-layer protective coating which combines an elastomeric waterproofing membrane (MULASTICOAT ®) with a fiber-glass-reinforced, synthetic resin modified cementitous top coating (KRETE KOTE 2000 or TOP COAT 2000)

The SYSTEM is designed to withstand heavy foot and vehicular traffic on walkways, decks, ramps, parking garages, roofs, etc. It can be applied to concrete, tile, wood, magnesite, epoxy stone and most other surfaces or substrates in need of a waterproofing and/or fire resistant protective coating.

The scope of this specification is to describe all  materials and  procedures for the installation of the MULTICOAT SLATEX ABOVE GRADE SYSTEM.

5. MULTICOAT ACRATHANE COLORSEAL/CLEARSEAL
as manufactured by MULTICOAT CORPORATION.

Shall be high solids synthetic waterbase latex protective coating for cleaning ease. Formula proprietary. Physical characteristics designed for compatibility with TOP COAT 2000 and KRETE KOTE 2000.

III. SURFACE CONSTRUCTION AND PREPARATION

1. All substrates  must be structurally sound and free of grease, oil, paint, dirt, dust, sealers, and other foreign materials which may prevent proper bonding of MULASTICOAT ®.

SUBSTRATES AND SUPPORT SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTED IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE BUILDING CODES.

2. Plywood substrates, including tongue and groove plywood, must be 5/8" minimum thickness, exterior grad AC, 16" maximum support spacing, edges blocked, all fastened with 8 penny ring shank nails or equivalent, on maximum 6" centers.

Moisture content should be below 15%. Use moisture meter to check. DO NOT USE OVER O.S.B. BOARD/CHIPBOARD.

IV. APPLICATION

1. MULASTICOAT ®

Coat all plywood joints, flashings, posts, drains, coves, stairwells and other irregularities with MULASTICOAT ®; embed with Stitchbonded Polyester Fabric; apply additional MULASTICOAT ® to saturated fabric, and allow to dry. MULASTICOAT ® is then applied over entire substrate in two (2) thin coats with roller, using firm pressure.

First Coat is allowed to dry to touch, usually 1-2 hours depending on ambient temperature. Second coat is applied crisscross to first coat. Allow MULASTICOAT ® to fully dry before proceeding with KRETE KOTE 2000 surfacing. DO NOT ALLOW MULASTICOAT ® TO BE EXPOSED FOR MORE THAN 3 DAYS.

2. KRETE KOTE 2000

Before proceeding remove dust from MULASTICOAT ® with damp sponge

First coat of KRETE KOTE 2000 (see KRETE KOTE 2000 instructions for mixing information) is applied with roller, squeegee or trowel; fiberglass mesh is immediately embedded and troweled down firmly. Minimum 2 hours initial cure, longer in cool weather.

Second coat of KRETE KOTE 2000 is applied firmly with trowel. Minimum 2 hours cure time, longer in cool weather.

3. TOP COAT 2000 / OR KRETE KOTE 2000

Third coat, TOP COAT 2000 OR KRETE KOTE 2000, is applied with trowel or hopper gun, depending upon whether smooth or textured finish is desired. Allow to cure a minimum of twelve (12) hours before allowing foot traffic and seventy-two (72) hours minimum for vehicular traffic, longer in cool weather.

Not responsible for cracks and delamination caused by structural movement, improper substrate or application

After APPLICATION the cured ABOVE GRADE SYSTEM, applied to properly constructed and supported plywood substrate should meet or exceed the following test data:
