I. DESCRIPTION and SCOPE

The MULTICOAT SLATEX WATERPROOFING SYSTEM is used as a base for tile installation. It consists of a multilayer seamless waterproofing membrane protected by an over coat of a Synthetic Resin modified cementitious material. It is designed for application to properly prepared concrete floors and walls and to wood or other compatible shower stall walls.

The scope of this specification is to describe all materials and procedures required for the SYSTEM.

1. Elastomeric Waterproofing Membrane

MULASTICOAT ® as manufactured by MULTICOAT CORPORATION

Shall be a modified synthetic latex whose cured physical properties shall meet or exceed the following test criteria...

2. Cementitious Protective Coating

SCRATCH  KOTE 2000 as manufactured by MULTICOAT CORPORATION.

Shall be a synthetic latex modified cementitious material, furnished in dry form, mixed with potable water at job site in necessary proportions to obtain desired consistency for vertical wall, rolled or spray application.

III. SURFACE CONSTRUCTION AND PREPARATION

CAUTION: The surfaces to be covered must be constructed in accordance with all construction codes.

1. Substrate must be structurally sound and free of grease, oil, paint, dirt, dust, sealers, laitence, concrete curing compounds and other foreign materials which may prevent proper bonding of MULASTICOAT.

2. Caulk all seams, joints, and corners with specified caulking compound and allow to thoroughly cure.

3. Surface must be thoroughly clean and dry prior to application of MULASTICOAT.

1. MULASTICOAT

A. Apply first coat of MULASTICOAT firmly with a 3/4" to 1 1/4" nap roller or spray. Cover entire surface area. Allow to dry a minimum of 2 hours prior to second coat application, or longer until completely dry.

B. Apply Polester Fabric Mesh to all 90o corners while first coat of MULASTICOAT is still wet.

C. Apply second coat (crisscrossed) with nap roller, same as first coat. Be sure all pin-holes, voids, etc. are completely covered. Allow to dry completely before proceeding. NOTE: Coverage, two (2) coats. 40-50 sq. ft. per gallon.

2. SCRATCH KOTE 2000

A. Clean MULASTICOAT surface with damp sponge (if necessary).

B. Prepare SCRATCH KOTE 2000 vigorously field mixed with potable water to thoroughly wet and disperse all solids. Approximate ratio 1 3/4" - 2" gallons per 65lb. bag.

C. Apply mixed SCRATCH KOTE 2000 promptly over entire surface with 1 1/4" nap roller, spray or trowel. One hour after application is completed, check to be sure MULASTICOAT is completely covered. No blue color should show.

Allow to cure a minimum of 24 hours before applying tile.

V. WARNING

Do not apply components of SLATEX SYSTEM when substrate surface temperature is below 50°F, above 100°F, if ambient temperature is below 50°F and falling, over 100°F and expected rise. DO NOT USE IFWALL OR FLOOR IS SUBJECTED TO NEGATIVE SIDE WATER OR WATER VAPOR PRESSURE.
