SLATEX ROOFING SYSTEM

I. DESCRIPTION and SCOPE

The SLATEX ROOFING SYSTEM is designed to be applied to structurally sound non-traffic bearing roof surfaces. It consists of an elastomeric waterproofing membrane overcoated with a Synthetic Resin modified cementitious material. The scope of this specification is to describe the materials and procedures for the installation of this System.

II. MATERIALS

1. Elastomeric Waterproofing Membrane

MULASTICOAT ® as manufactured by MULTICOAT CORPORATION

Shall be a modified synthetic latex whose cured physical properties shall meet or exceed the following test criteria...

MULASTICOAT ®

TEST METHOD RESULTS
1. Tensile/elongation ASTM-D 412-83 Aged 717psi/392%
2. Bond Strength Concrete ASTM-C 297 192psi
3. Low Temperature Flexibility   -5ºF
4. Crack Bridging LA City Method Total Elongation -205%
5. Percolation 2" x 48" waterhead-48hrs No Loss
6. Accelerated Aging ASTM-D 756 D + E 25 cycles - Passed
7. Water Vapor Transmission ASTM-E 96-BW Grains/hr./ft.sq. .0044

2. Cementitious Protective Coating

SCRATCH  KOTE 2000 as manufactured by MULTICOAT CORPORATION.

Shall be a synthetic latex modified cementitious material, furnished in dry form, mixed with potable water at job site in necessary proportions to obtain desired consistency for vertical wall, rolled or spray application.

Physical properties of the cured material shall meet or exceed the following test criteria:

SCRATCH KOTE 2000

TEST METHOD RESULTS
1. Weatherometer ASTM G23 2000 Hrs - Passed
2. Compressive Strength ASTM C109...

45 Days air cured

2595psi
3. Tensile Strength ASTM-C190 457psi

6. 50-Cycle Freeze Thaw ASTM-C67 Passed
7. Flexural Strength ASTM-D790 Modulus of Rupture - 770psi
8. Impact Resistance MIL-D-3134F Passed

3. STITCHBONDED POLYESTER FABRIC

Shall be in accordance with the following specifications - 10" wide rolls:

1.

Weight 2.75 oz / sq.yd.
2. Tensile Strength fd/td 31.6 lbs.
3. Elongation 40.6%
4. Mullen Burst 99.6 lbs.
5. Tear Strength 13.2 lbs.

III. SURFACE CONSTRUCTION AND PREPARATION

1. All surfaces must be structurally sound and free of grease, oil, paint, dirt, dust, sealers, laitence, concrete curing compounds and other foreign materials which may prevent proper bonding of MULASTICOAT.

2. Surface and structural support must be constructed in conformance with all applicable building codes.

IV. APPLICATION

1. MULASTICOAT ®

A. Coat all joints and flashing with MULASTICOAT. Firmly apply with nap roller approximately 5" on each side of joints. Coat all flashing both vertical & horizontal.

B. Embed Stitchbond Polyester Fabric Mesh in MULASTICOAT while still wet.

C. Firmly apply additional MULASTICOAT to encapsulate Fabric. Allow to dry.

D. Apply MULASTICOAT in two thin coats to entire surface. 1st coat with 3/4" - 1 1/4" nap roller - firm pressure. Allow to dry minimum of 2 hours prior to second coat application. Second coat (crisscrossed) with airless spray or roller. Be sure all pinholes, voids, etc. are completely covered. Allow to dry minimum of 24 hours, before proceeding, longer in cool weather.

NOTE: Coverage, two (2) coats. 40-50 sq. ft. per gallon.

2. SCRATCH KOTE 2000 Protective Coating

A. Clean MULASTICOAT surface with damp sponge.

B. Apply finish coat of SCRATCH KOTE 2000 with 1 1/4" roller cover. SCRATCH KOTE 2000 vigorously field mixed with potable (clean) water to thoroughly disperse solids in approximate amount of 1 3/4 to 2 gals per 65 lb. bag. Use MULTICOAT special mixing paddle and margin trowel to clear vessel walls. Adjust consistency so applied material does not slump or stick to roller.

C. One hour after application is complete, check to make sure MULASTICOAT is completely covered (no blue should show). Cure time 24-48 hours depending on temperature and humidity, longer in cool weather.

V. WARNING

Do not apply components of SLATEX SYSTEM when substrate surface temperature is below 50°F, above 100°F, if ambient temperature is below 50°F and falling, over 100°F and expected rise, or if precipitation is expected within a 24 hours period

VI. WARRANTY

Materials are guaranteed with respect to uniformity and quality within manufacturers’ specifications. Seller makes no other warranty, expressed or implied, regarding the use of its products. Since use of the product is beyond the Seller’s control, the Buyer assumes all risks of use. Seller’s sole obligation shall be to replace material if found to be defective.
