FLOORS / HORIZONTAL SURFACES
- MULTICOAT VAPOR SHIELD can be used as a 20psi vapor/moisture barrier prior to the application of Mulasticoat to prevent efflorescence, densify the concrete, accelerate the concrete “green window,” and more. (see VAPOR SHIELD for more details
(Note: In some cases over existing concrete in submerged conditions a primer coat of KRETE KOTE or SCRATCH KOTE may need to be applied to substrate to create even suction for Better Bonding.) Please call Multicoat if you have questions before proceeding. SINCE MULASTICOAT IS A VAPOR BARRIER. SUBSTRATE MUST BE THOROUGHLY DRY BEFORE APPLICATION TO PREVENT GASSING OR BUBBLING.
APPLICATION
Mulasticoat is a component of several Multicoat systems. Steps 1 & 2 on the bucket’s reverse side are general instructions to be followed whenever Mulasticoat is applied. HOWEVER, there are specific steps that must be followed depending on what application Mulasticoat is being used for Above Grade Waterproofing, Water Feature Waterproofing, Air Barrier, etc.
Please refer to the relevant Multicoat System for specific, detailed application instructions.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
- Stir MULASTICOAT with hand paddle.
- Roll, brush or spray MULASTICOAT over area to be waterproofed in two (2) coats at a coverage rate of 40-50 sq. ft. per gallon 2 coats. Allow to dry thoroughly between coats.
- Use polyester stitch bond fabric as a flexible reinforcement material for potential leak areas such as parapets, drains, coves, flashing, posts, protrusions, etc. Embed Polyester Stitch Bond Fabric immediately during the application of the first coat. Apply additional MULASTICOAT on top of the fabric to ensure encapsulation of the fabric.
(Note: All 90˚ Angles, corners or protrusions in the substrate should be caulked with a polyurethane caulk and polyester stitch bond fabric should be embedded into the first coast of MULASTICOAT in those areas.)

Q: Can BG2000 be applied to green concrete?
A: For applications with at least one exposed side, YES. As long as it is firm to touch and cleaned of mold releases and other impurities. Things like: poured in place retaining walls, freshly built block walls, etc. are perfect applications for BG2000.
Q: Is BG2000 oil-based?
A: No, there is no asphalt emulsion in BG2000. Unlike many competitors that claim to be “water-based” but also contain petroleum byproducts, BG2000 is made from 100% Water born acrylics and contains ZERO ASPHALT EMULSION.
Q: Is BG2000 expensive?
A: No, when used in replace of lower end asphalt products consumers see a cost decrease due to its higher coverage rates, lower application time, and clean up time/ease.
Q: How do you bridge expansion joints and wall/floor 90º joints?
A: We recommend embedding a material called Polyester Stitch Bond Fabric into the first coat of BG2000 to act as a reinforcement material for high movement areas. It is an inexpensive way to ensure security and rigidity in areas that may be subject to extreme movement over time.

SURFACE PREPARATION
- Substrate must be structurally sound, free from grease, oil, paint, dirt, dust, sealers, laitance, curing compounds, and any other foreign material which may prevent proper bonding.
- When applying to cementitous surface, that surface must be fully cured.
- Concrete slabs and mortar beds should have a coarse finish to assist in bonding.
- When applying Lightweight Cement the substrate must have a minimum of 2,000 psi compressive strength. Must be dry and properly cured.
- If cracks are present, fill with quick setting, non-shrinking mortar prior to application of GREEN BARRIER.
- For applications over concrete that is less than 28 days old, the use of Multicoat’s Vapor Shield is recommend to speed the curing and installation process and to help reduce negative side pressure.
MIXING
- Hand stir GREEN BARRIER until a uniform green color is present.
APPLICATION
While wet, GREEN BARRIER is a light green color. Once applied the dark green color will be your indicator that the material has dried and is ready for the next phase. The color change may take 1 to 2 hours to occur Application is achieved by using a 3/4” nap roller. In all corners, apply a generous amount of GREEN BARRIER a minimum of 8” in both directions and immediately embed and smooth out Multicoat’s stich bond polyester fabric mesh to create a flashing detail. Let this dry for several minutes then apply another saturating coat over top to completely cove the fabric and allow to dry to a dark green color. The gap in the corners should not be greater than 1/16”. If greater than 1/16”, pre fill with a non shrinking fast setting mortar. Drains should have the clamp ring with open weep holes for thin set applications. Apply GREEN BARRIER to the bottom of the flange, and the flange should be fully supported with no movement and should be level with the plane of the floor.
Apply GREEN BARRIER around the drain and immediately embed a piece of 12” x 12” stitch bond polyester fabric into the wet material and insure it does not cover the weep holes. Allow to dry a few minutes and apply another coat over the mesh area. The use of a silicone caulk around the flange where it makes contact with the membrane is recommended. After the corners and drain detail are dry, apply a full coverage coat over the entire area, achieving a mil coverage of at least 45 mils. Once fully dry (dark green color is your indicator) inspect for pin holes or thin areas and apply a second coat at a right angle to the first coat. When small gaps are present, such as the gap between cement board, use the same polyester fabric to span this joint. Always follow all local building codes when applying this product.

VAPOR SHIELD
DENSIFIER/VAPOR BARRIER
VAPOR SHIELD is a chemical hardener, densifier, soluble chloride reducer used over bare concrete prior to cementitious overlay applications. Vapor Shield blocks and reduces vapor emissions through the concrete but leaves concrete breathable. It blocks hydrostatic pressure up to 20 psi. It does not alter the color of concrete, nor does it make the surface slippery or less slippery. Vapor Shield helps to reduce efflorescence on floors. It reduces the green window from 28 days to an average of 5 days. Vapor Shield reduces vapor emissions for application of surface coatings such as poly-urea coatings, epoxy coatings, urethane coatings, as well as carpet, floor tile, sheet vinyl and hardwood flooring materials.

POOLS
- Check and completely remove all hollows and loose areas with picks and hammers. Chip out minimum 2 inches below tile line and around all water inlets, return lines and light fixtures. Sandblast, acid etch or water blast with a turbo nozzle or sand injection attachment (3,500 psi minimum). If acid etching, must neutralized and powerwash with spinner tip. Make sure to remove all rust, algae, copper sulfate, soft flaky plaster, paint and other foreign matter. Recheck for hollows, loose and flaky areas. Soft flaky areas must be removed before SCRATCH KOTE 2000 is applied. Wash thoroughly with waterblaster and dry all areas to touch before proceeding.
WALLS & FLOORS
- Substrate must be structurally sound, free from grease, oil, paint, dirt, dust, sealers, laitence, curing compounds and other foreign materials which may prevent proper bonding. Cracks and imperfections must be repaired. Properly installed expansion joints should be cleaned.
MIXING
- Using a mixing paddle, mix with 2-2.5 gallons of LIQUID CATALYST* per bag for 1.5 minutes. Mix vigorously to disperse all lumps and to thoroughly wet all particles.
