SURFACE PREPARATION

Substrate must be dry, structurally sound and free from grease, oil, dirt, dust, sealers, water repellents and other foreign materials which may interfere with proper bonding. Shot blasting, sand blasting, or water sand blasting with minimum 3500 psi may be necessary over some surfaces to achieve proper bonding.

WALLS / VERTICAL SURFACES

  • On concrete block or slumpstone walls – all head and bed joints must be free of holes and finished flush with block substrate.
  • For poured in place walls, a waterbase form release must be used. If an oil base release is used, it can be completely removed with trisodium phosphate (TSP), power washed and rinsed.
  • MULTICOAT VAPOR SHIELD can be used as a 20psi vapor/moisture barrier prior to the application of Mulasticoat to prevent efflorescence, densify the concrete, accelerate the concrete “green window,” and more. (see VAPOR SHIELD for more details

FLOORS / HORIZONTAL SURFACES

  • MULTICOAT VAPOR SHIELD can be used as a 20psi vapor/moisture barrier prior to the application of Mulasticoat to prevent efflorescence, densify the concrete, accelerate the concrete “green window,” and more. (see VAPOR SHIELD for more details

(Note: In some cases over existing concrete in submerged conditions a primer coat of KRETE KOTE or SCRATCH KOTE may need to be applied to substrate to create even suction for Better Bonding.) Please call Multicoat if you have questions before proceeding. SINCE MULASTICOAT IS A VAPOR BARRIER. SUBSTRATE MUST BE THOROUGHLY DRY BEFORE APPLICATION TO PREVENT GASSING OR BUBBLING.

APPLICATION

Mulasticoat is a component of several Multicoat systems. Steps 1 & 2 on the bucket’s reverse side are general instructions to be followed whenever Mulasticoat is applied. HOWEVER, there are specific steps that must be followed depending on what application Mulasticoat is being used for Above Grade Waterproofing, Water Feature Waterproofing, Air Barrier, etc.

Please refer to the relevant Multicoat System for specific, detailed application instructions.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Stir MULASTICOAT with hand paddle.
  • Roll, brush or spray MULASTICOAT over area to be waterproofed in two (2) coats at a coverage rate of 40-50 sq. ft. per gallon 2 coats. Allow to dry thoroughly between coats.
  • Use polyester stitch bond fabric as a flexible reinforcement material for potential leak areas such as parapets, drains, coves, flashing, posts, protrusions, etc. Embed Polyester Stitch Bond Fabric immediately during the application of the first coat. Apply additional MULASTICOAT on top of the fabric to ensure encapsulation of the fabric.

(Note: All 90˚ Angles, corners or protrusions in the substrate should be caulked with a polyurethane caulk and polyester stitch bond fabric should be embedded into the first coast of MULASTICOAT in those areas.)

(MULASTICOAT MUST ALWAYS BE COATED WITH AN ULTRAVIOLET RESISTANT COATING (KRETE KOTE, TOP COAT, SCRATCH KOTE 200 OR POND KOTE.)

APPLICATION SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS **FOR MULASTICOAT STEP ONLY

  • Ponds & Water Features
    • Broadcast 16 or 20 silica sand on to the wet 2nd coat of MULASTICOAT. When MULASTICOAT is dry, brush off the loose sand with a soft bristled broom.
  • Above Grade Waterproofing
    • Broadcast 16 or 20 silica sand on to the wet 2nd coat of MULASTICOAT. When MULASTICOAT is dry, brush off the loose sand with a soft bristled broom.
  • Air Barrier
    • Only apply 1 coat at approximately double the coverage rate of the regular usage recommendation for MULASTICOAT.
