SURFACE PREPARATION
Substrate must be structurally sound, free from grease, oil, paint, dirt, dust and sealers. Laitance, curing compounds and any other foreign material which may prevent proper bonding. When applying to any cementitious surface, that surface must be fully cured. Water should be able to penetrate the substrate. If water beads, surface contaminates are present. Insure that surface is not subjected to hydrostatic pressure, if so, do not apply. Concrete slabs and mortar beds should have a coarse finish to assist in bonding. When applying to Gypsum and Lightweight Cement the substrate must have a minimum of 2,000 psi compressive strength. Must be dry and properly cured. Roughen the surfaces by sanding or scarifying, rinse and allow to dry. Do not sand floors that contain asbestos.
APPLICATION
Step 1: FLEX SET MORTAR is to be field mixed with clean potable water and mechanically mixed to desired consistency based upon scope of application. Add approximately 6-1/2 quarts of water into mixing container. Slowly pour the contents of the bag into the mixing water. Mix until a firm, workable consistency is achieved. If more water is needed, add small amounts and continue to mix until consistency is achieved. Let the mixture slake or stand 5 to 10 minutes, then stir again and use. Stir occasionally but do not add more water. Desired consistency should be trowel ridges should stand without slumping. Do not exceed a total volume of 1.5 gallons or water for each 65-lb. bag. Be sure mixed material is consistent from batch to batch.
Step 2: Apply FLEX SET MORTAR to substrate with flat trowel. Use a properly sized notch trowel to insure proper coverage and spread of material under tiles. Work placed FLEX SET MORTAR with notched trowel to create rows of adhesive to proper thickness for item being placed. Press tile firmly in place, moving back and forth to insure a proper set. Adjust tile quickly and then gently tap into place with rubber mallet or beating block until flush with other units. Periodically pull up a tile or stone and check the back to insure proper adhesive coverage. If mortar has already taken its set under the lifted tile, remove mortar and replace with fresh FLEX SET MORTAR can be a total of 3/8″ thick once item has been set and tamped into place.
Step 3: Curing time will vary due to weather conditions, thickness, substrate absorption, etc. Material should be protected from weather elements and foot traffic for a minimum of 24 hours. Provision for movement (expansion joints and control joints) and other changes of plane in all installations are required. Do not bridge expansion or control joints. Those joints should be brought up through the work and filled with a suitable caulking.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Surface must be completely dry and thoroughly clean of any foreign material that may interfere with bonding. Cracks larger than 1/16” in width must be opened with a crack chaser to a minimum of 1/4” in width. Once opened, all cracks must be cleaned by sand-blasting, waterblasting
or water sandblasting. Depth of crack and surface area around crack must be completely dry and thoroughly clean.
APPLICATION
Prepare Cartridge: Unscrew round colleet, pull cap from center of tube and set both to the side for later use. Screw enclosed mixing tip onto tube insuring snug fit.
Initial Dispense: Prior to filling crack, insure material is flowing through mixing tip uniformly and easily. Dispense onto discarded cardboard as a test.
Begin filling crack to a slightly over filled capacity, then immediately press SPEED BOND into crack and spread material level and flat onto adjacent sides of crack by using a margin trowel or putty knife. While SPEED BOND is wet, broadcast #16-20 silica sand generously over the wet SPEED BOND and allow to set until dry. Once dry, brush away and sand that has not stuck to the SPEED BOND. The crack is now ready to be over-coated. Speed Bond is self leveling, and large cracks that are completely open should be dammed closed to prevent the SPEED BOND from leaking out the bottom.
Reuse: Partially used tubes can be stored and re-used. Remove the used mixing tip and discard as they can not be re-used. Attempting to re-use a used mixing tip will damage the tube and render it useless. After used tip has been removed, wipe excess material from end of cartridge, re-install the cap and collet.

POOLS
- Check and completely remove all hollows and loose areas with picks and hammers. Chip out minimum 2 inches below tile line and around all water inlets, return lines and light fixtures. Sandblast, acid etch or water blast with a turbo nozzle or sand injection attachment (3,500 psi minimum). If acid etching, must neutralized and powerwash with spinner tip. Make sure to remove all rust, algae, copper sulfate, soft flaky plaster, paint and other foreign matter. Recheck for hollows, loose and flaky areas. Soft flaky areas must be removed before SCRATCH KOTE 2000 is applied. Wash thoroughly with waterblaster and dry all areas to touch before proceeding.

- 3. Applicator has prepared and filed the required Warranty Information Form(s) with Multicoat Products, Inc. covering the specific customer job(s).
NOTE:
Warranty is not applicable if there is movement or cracking of the underlying base and/or the weight bearing cement covering of the waterproofing membrane. Failure to adhere to good construction and workmanship practices based on industry standard construction, means, methods, sequences and techniques could result in delamination, debonding and water instrusion for which Multicoat will not be responsible.
The end user must look to the Certified Applicator for satisfaction if any problem develops with the Multicoat system covered by the warranty. Multicoat suggests that the customer:
- 1. Use only a licensed contractor in good standing (fully bonded).
- 2. Make certain that the applicator has been certified by Multicoat, prior to work commencing or certification while on the job. A simple phone call to Multicoat is sufficient to determine if an applicator is certified and if such certification is in good standing.
In the event that it is determined that the Applicator failed to install the system(s) in accordance with Multicoat’s “instructions for use” or “specifications”, the warranty is void. See specific warranty information below.
