IT’S BETTER THAN WATERPROOF, IT’S “PRESSURE-PROOF”

Sunken fire pits, In-Pool islands, water features, and ponds can all benefit from The Shield Kote System. It’s proprietary polymer blend and activation technology, Shield Kote has proven relentless in strength and durability on areas that are subject to negative side pressure, thermal expansion and contraction and more. It can be left exposed for a smooth stucco-like finish or coated over with thin set or other coatings. Shield Kote was developed for Fish Hatchery Restoration and continues to be the chosen system for that market.

Q: Is this fish friendly?

A: Yes. Allow material to dry 7 to 10 days prior to filling with water. After filling, run circulation pumps/filters followed by a light brushing to remove any surface containments prior to adding fish. Longer dry time will be required for interior applications.

Q: Can I add colorant to the POND KOTE?

A: Yes as long as you mix the colorant with the water prior to adding the dry mix to it. You should not mix the colorant in after it has been mixed with water.

Q: Do I have to strip off any old material from the substrate?

A: Yes, we recommend approximately 92-100% removal of all old coatings prior to the application of this system.

Q: Can I paint the Pond Kote?

A: It is not advised to use paints in a submerged environment, especially in pools where chemicals are present. If you do decide to use paints, you should proceed with caution and contact the manufacturer to gather information prior to application.

Q: Can I apply Krete Kote over my existing concrete deck?

A: Yes. Krete Kote is designed to go over old concrete or new concrete in order to not only elevate the look, but also to perform as an anti-slip, cooling surface that protects your concrete from the elements.

Q: Do I have to paint it?

A: There are many options for protecting Krete Kote. You may paint, stain, or simply clear seal it with a water-based or solvent sealer.

Q: Do I have to strip off any old material from the substrate?

A: It depends on the material. If it is an epoxy, silicone, or other non water-based materials you must strip all of it. if it is another acrylic coating, simply abrade the surface and prepare it to be bonded to.

Q: Can you patch Krete Kote in the future?

A: Yes. Simply follow the instructions as if you were doing the entire area but in a smaller area. An small artists touch is needed to match the texture and to feather the edges in, but it is not difficult, just a little detailed.

Q: Can I build Stamp Mix up more than 1/4″?

A: Yes, and in fact, some stamps require more. To find that information, look at the requirements for thickness when purchasing stamps.

Q: Can I mix stain colors?

A: Yes, layering colors while wet creates a natural shading effect. GO FOR IT!

Q: Can I use a solvent sealer instead of Clear20?

A: Absolutely. Seal Brite is a great option for that if you’re trying to achieve better hot tire performance or just looking for a greater gloss.

Q: Can I bridge expansion joints?

A: No, all joints must be honored with any overlay system.
